The interior design of any personal or office space must take into consideration various crucial aspects. The following basic principles, if adhered to, will take care of a number of these factors. Each of these has an important role to play and it may be utilized in several ways on the basis of the type of space we are dealing with.
As per this principle, while designing the interiors, care should be taken to maintain consistency in the overall design, as a structure must be treated as a single entity, which is separated into a number of parts by walls. The overall theme should always be kept in mind
Balance:
This means properly arranging objects in a given space. It is important to position things with similar visual character at carefully selected positions to get that perfect balance from a specific point. Balance is categorized into three broad kinds. :
The most fundamental type is symmetrical balance, which is quite easy to strike.
The second kind is asymmetrical balance, which is very much in vogue, but needs a lot of imagination.
The third is radial, which is attained by using a central point or item from which the other pieces seem to be relatively positioned
Proportion:
This relates to the relative dimensions of items in a space. It is vital that different articles are in sync with each other and with the room as far as proportions are concerned. Lack of proportion will cause imbalance that will adversely affect the appearance of the room, as some things will be over emphasized while others will not get sufficient visibility.

Focus:
Having a focus in a space is a sign of good interior design. What type of focal item you choose is up to you. It could be something like a nice artwork or a furniture item. The item should be such that it is significant in the overall design of the room and is able to grab the attention of the onlooker. While it must be exclusive, it must gel with its surroundings
Having a rhythm too is very essential for achieving a good design. The design must seem to flow according to a pattern from one point to the next. This can be achieved through the use of arcs, patterned walls or ceilings, through decorations or furnishings, and through repeating colours or shapes.
